Here is my review for A Dry White Season, our film from a couple weeks ago.
Based on André Brink’s emotionally-charged novel, A Dry White Season takes place during Apartheid in South Africa. In 1976, primary and secondary students in Soweto formed a peaceful protest, where the police then opened fire on them. Newspapers said 23 had been killed, though there were reports saying there were nearly 600 killed and 1400 injured. One of the film’s first scenes is of the so-called “peaceful” protest.
